Elmo’s Potty Time
Sesame Street Elmo's Potty Time dvd was released in 2006. You can watch Elmo's Potty Time youtube video on our site.
FRAME 1: Elmo is using the toilet. He asks the kids if they are using the toilet or potty. He says if they still not using the toilet or potty it will be happen soon.
Elmo’s daddy Louie comes and asks Elmo with who is he talking to. Elmo says that he is talking to his friends. Elmo asks his daddy if Elmo used always a toilet or no.
Louie says that Elmo has his diapers like a little baby. As a baby, Elmo needs help with many things just like eating, dressing and staying dry. Louie shows Elmo his baby photos.
So they go back a little bit: back to when Elmo goes to the potty. Louie bought a potty. They decide where to place it. Then Louie sings "It's Potty Time". This is a Sesame Street song about potty training.
oh yes it's really true
and soon you will be ready to do
uh something kind of new
so here is your new potty
when you have to pee or poo
it's where you sit to do
what you gotta do-do
because it's potty time
gotta get down low
it's potty time, just let it go
it's potty time, yeah, go with the flow
it's potty time, you can do it i know
because it's what you've always had
but using your new potty
can make you really, really glad
yes, it may take some time
but down the line,
i can tell that you will do that cool poo
that you do so well
it's potty time, gotta get down low
it's potty time, just let it go
it's potty time, you can do it i know"
Towards the end of the song Elmo uses the potty. Louie asks Elmo where his mom put air freshener. That day Elmo made pee pee and poo poo in the potty for the very first time. And then at first sometimes he did use and sometimes he didn't use potty. Because learning to go to the potty in time takes practice. But he tried and he kept at it and he started using the potty more and more and after a while he were using the potty all the time. Elmo doesn’t need any diapers anymore. Elmo explains that if you keep trying then when you're ready someday you'll use the potty all the time too
Song: Joe Raposo sings Trying Song. A song about trying till you learn something. A little cat is climbing the stairs, a little boy hits the ball, another boy tries to dress himself, a baby tries to go, a boy tries to fill the glass with milk, a girl tries to make soap bubbles. Sesame Street emphasizes the importance of trying in potty training.
trying and trying again it seems to take such time
well don't be afraid because you are small
and don't be afraid that you may fall
you can make it after all it just takes time
so to keep on trying and trying again
a little more each day
trying and trying again to grow in every way
chicks in their shells trying to get free
seeds trying to grow to be a tree
how big and strong you're going to be it just takes time
to keep on trying
trying and trying again and finally to know
trying and trying again
to teach yourself to grow
the deepest pride you feel inside
when doing all the things you have tried
until you see what you become and dream
you'd be through so much trying"
FRAME 2: Elmo’s daddy Louie measured his height and tells him that he is a big kid now. Elmo asks what does it mean to be proud? Louie says that you are proud when you make something really good.
FRAME 3: Elmo is riding a bike. Elmo tells it sure is good to be able to use the toilet no more diapers to slow you down. Gordon is reading a book for Baby Bear and Curly Bear. Elmo comes up to them and greets them.
Baby bears sister Curly Bear is wearing diapers too. But sometimes she used the potty. Elmo tells that he is talking to his friends about learning to use a potty. Baby Bear tells that every kid calls his toilet need with different words just like pee pee, poo poo, woo-woo e.t.c. And every kid needs different time to learn to use the potty. It just takes some time.
FRAME 4: After watching the film Elmo says there's so many different words for pee pee and poo poo. Gordon explains "that what it doesn't really matter what word you use because they all mean the same things. Someday you'll be able to put your wee-wee and your woo-woo into the potty every time." Baby Bear asks Gordon when exactly can we expect that to happen. Gordon replies: "everybody's different and it's perfectly fine that everyone learns how to use the potty in their own way and in their own time. Learning to use the potty often can take some time but as long as you continue to listen to your body when you get that feeling that you have to go pretty soon you'll get it."
Just at the moment, Baby Bear needs to go a potty emergency. Gordon tells he can use the bathroom in his apartment. Elmo has this to say about potty training: "see Baby Bear knew it was time to use the toilet because he listened to his body yeah he got the feeling that the pee pee or the poo poo was ready to come out so he went right to the bathroom."
Grover appears and is in a hurry. He's looking for a place to go to the toilet. Monsters, bears, people everybody has to listen to their body no matter who you are when you gotta go you gotta go.
Animation: A large gorilla resembling King Kong works to meet his body's needs. Yes it's the colossal big monkey. It appears as though big monkey's tummy is rumbling, his body says "i'm hungry." What will he do next? Oh my holy mackerel. The big fella just ate Lucky Sam sandwich shop. Luckily, Sam is on vacation this week.
Wait, it seems his body is trying to tell him something else. He appears to have an itch. He's using a tree to scratch his itch talk about being in tune with your body. All this activities making the big fella hot as can be. Will he listen to his body again? He's leaning into the sky and grabbing an airplane. He's using the plane to cool himself.
His body's trying to tell him something again. He's thirsty. He's uncapping the fire hydrant and drinking from the fire hydrant. He's recapping the hydrant swell his thirst quenched. All of humanity is asking what is his body going to tell him now. Ladies and gentlemen there's your answer the big monkey has to go to the bathroom. He is so in tune with his body. Officials are taking emergency measures. It's a big monkey-sized potty and just in time. Well you know what they say monkey pee monkey poo.
FRAME 5: Grover now feels better after going to the toilet. He is so sorry because he almost knocked Elmo down before. Grover tells when you get the feeling that you have to go it is best to just stop whatever you are doing and go right to your body. Yeah that's right or else you could have an accident. Elmo confirms it: "that's true accidents still happen sometimes especially at the beginning but that's just part of learning to use the potty."
"accidents happen that's what they say
accidents happen night or day
accidents happen when you're awake or you're napping
accidents happen that's okay
sometimes accidents can happen
when you are busy playing you know
and you do not want to stop to use the potty.
sometimes you're not really sure
if you should go to the potty or play some more
but if you wait too late you have to run to the door
and then you might go on the floor
accidents happen that's what they say
accidents happen night or day
accidents happen when you're awake or you're napping
accidents happen that's okay
and sometimes even after you know how to use the body during the day you can still have accidents at night. many kids wear training pants only at nighttime just in case.
have an accident when you're asleep at night
but sometimes you can stop accidents from happening. oh yes there are ways to tell if you have to use the bathroom.
sometimes that feeling speaks up on you
when you got the pee or you got the poo
but your body is going to give you a clue
so listen to what it is telling you
but if you don't get there in time it's not a crime
just try and make it to the potty next time
accidents happen that's what they say
accidents happen night or day
accidents happen when you're awake or you're napping
accidents happen and that's okay..."
Grover makes some clarifications after the song: "oh yes accidents can happen a lot when you are first learning to use the potty but that is normal. After a while you will have fewer and fewer accidents." Then they hear a voice in the background saying "food". Grover thinks his body is trying to tell him something right now. His body tells Grover he's hungry so he will go get snack.
Curly Bear is under the table and she doesn’t come out. Elmo thinks she's playing hide and seek, but that's not true. Baby Bear wants the help of animal doctor Gina to get her out from under the table. Gina thinks Curly Bear may have to go poo poo.
Gina finally convinces Curly Bear: "okay curly i know just what to do come with me and you can use the private bathroom in my office where i have a special potty for kids just like you." Elmo tells that Curly can do it because having a dirty diaper is no fun that's why it's great to learn to use the potty
FRAME 6: Dirty diapers are no fun but when you can use the potty all the time then you won't have to wear diapers anymore. You'll get to wear something very special underpants just like the big kids and grown-ups wear. Elmo says hooray for underpants and encounters Prairie Dawn.
Prairie Dawn explains not everyone goes right from diapers to underpants. A lot of kids wear training pants while they're learning to use the potty. Training pants are kind of like a diaper and kind of like underwear. There's sort of a comfy cozy in between thing to help you learn to stay dry. Elmo tells when you don't need diapers or training pants anymore then you can wear underpants. Prairie Dawn tells that she will never forget the day she got her first panties and it was very exciting.
Here we go back in time, Baby Prairie Dawn and her mother appear: "I had just learned to use the potty all the time and i didn't need diapers or training pants anymore. So my mommy took me to the store to choose my very own underpants. I was so excited. There were lots of different kinds so many colors and designs. I got to pick up the ones i like best. They had little pictures of pianos all over. I couldn't wait to wear them. Finally when i got home i tried them on and they felt great and i felt so proud because i knew it meant that i was growing up. And i've been wearing underpants ever since."
Prairie Dawn tells Elmo when he is finished using the potty there are three things he have to remember to do. The first thing you have to do after you use the potty is wipe yourself clean with toilet paper. But don't use too much you only need a little bit. After you use the potty you wipe yourself clean with toilet paper then you have to flush or you can help your mommy and daddy empty your potty into the toilet and then you flush. The third thing you have to do after you use the potty wash your hands with soap and water.
"let's take a tour of the factory
find out what this pulp is about to be
in the big machine up the belt goodbye
i got to get it very wet because it's very dry
i got to push it smash it make it into slurry hurry
can't rest when the mess is occurring tidy
getting up bring it down press it flat wind it up like that
into the thing called the master roll
and that's what we take home right now
..."

FRAME 7: Elmo thinks washing and drying hands are two different things washing is one drying is two. But Prairie tells she is counting them as one: "i mean you might say that washing and drying go hand in hand." Well it doesn't really matter anyway as long as everybody knows you have to wash and dry your hands after you use the potty. Then Gordon appears and he just wanted to make sure that they tell everyone that when you're learning to use the potty it's okay if you have accidents. Then Grover appears and asks: "did you tell everyone that when you are done with diapers you get to wear big kid underpants." And then Louie appears and tells Elmo: "i just wanted to make sure that you told everyone that you have to wash your hands after you use the bathroom and dry them." Elmo says he talked about it all. But he adds one last thing: "if you aren't using the potty right now don't worry you'll be able to use the potty someday after all. Everybody does sooner or later and you will too you'll do it."
Song: Finally Elmo, Louie, Prairie Dawn, Baby Bear, Gordon, Grover, Curly Bear and Gina sing a song about using potty: "You'll Do It."
"boys do it girls do it.
big kids all around the world do it
you do it, you use the potty.
we do it folks as far as you can see do it you do it
you'll Use the Potty..."
"it's harder the first time the first time you tried.
it's crazy that first time you're scared and you're shy
you're feeling that feeling of starting to do
something that's strange and new
that first time the tough time you try and you try
it's trouble you've got big trouble you may have to cry
you get it you lose it you fall down and then
you pick yourself up and try again
you're working you're striving you're struggling now
and all of a sudden, all of a sudden
all of a sudden you know how"
