Career

Seungmin, born on September 22, 2000, in Seoul, South Korea, is a member of the popular K-pop group, Stray Kids. His full name is Kim Seung-min. He attended Cheongdam High School, a prestigious institution in Seoul, where he balanced his studies with his passion for music. He participated in the 13th JYP Open Audition in 2016, where he impressed the judges with his powerful vocals. As a result, Seungmin was accepted as a trainee, marking the beginning of his training period under JYP Entertainment. After nearly two years of intense training, Seungmin officially debuted as a member of Stray Kids on March 25, 2018. Stray Kids made their official debut on March 25, 2018, with their extended play (EP) titled "I Am NOT." The EP featured the lead single "District 9".

Stray Kids is a South Korean K-pop boy group formed by JYP Entertainment in 2017. The group consists of eight members: Bang Chan, Lee Know, Changbin, Hyunjin, Han, Felix, Seungmin, and I.N. Originally, Stray Kids debuted as a nine-member group, but member Woojin left in 2019. The group's formation and debut were documented in a reality show called "Stray Kids," which aired on Mnet.



In Stray Kids, Seungmin plays a vital role as a lead vocalist and an MC. Seungmin has mentioned in various interviews and fan interactions that he looks up to several artists in the Korean music industry. Some of his main influences include popular K-pop groups such as SHINee and DAY6, as well as solo artists like Park Hyo Shin and IU. In 2018, Seungmin, along with fellow Stray Kids members Bang Chan and Changbin, participated in a special stage performance during the Mnet Asian Music Awards (MAMA). Seungmin initially had aspirations to become a baseball player but had to stop due to an injury. He later discovered his passion for singing and even won a prize at a nursery rhyme contest in fourth grade, eventually joining a choir. Seungmin chose to audition for JYP Entertainment after his friend Lee Daehwi (AB6IX), a former JYP trainee, encouraged him to do so. As part of the group's vocal subunit, VOCALRACHA, he plays a significant role in the group's music. Seungmin is often referred to as "Sunshine" by his fans and "Snail" by his fellow Stray Kids members. He graduated from the School of Performing Arts Seoul (SOPA) in 2019. Seungmin is fluent in English, having learned the language through self-study and watching American TV shows. Before debuting with Stray Kids, Seungmin trained for 1 year and 11 months under JYP Entertainment.
