On a sunny day, Chris begins the day by greeting viewers, soon joining Elmo whose toy airplane is stuck in a tree. As they ponder on using a ladder to retrieve it, a pair of unlikely heroes, Super Chicken and Robin, drop in, followed by a clumsy landing from Super Grover. Elmo is delighted by the superhero turnout to rescue his toy.
As Super Grover dismisses the “super poultry” and attempts to reach the airplane, Robin skillfully flies up and brings it down, earning Elmo’s gratitude. Grover bemoans the lack of a super sidekick when Horatio the Elephant, sporting a superhero costume, crashes onto the scene, offering his help.
As Horatio sets off to answer a distant cry for help, he ends up lodged in Hooper’s Store doorway, requiring Super Grover and Chris's assistance. Meanwhile, Elmo rushes to aid Baby Bear, who is struggling to form a quartet for his choir. Elmo quickly resolves the issue by pointing out that Baby Bear is an animal himself, completing the quartet.
Next, Elmo helps some kids retrieve a stuck ball using himself as a makeshift ball with Chris's aid. As Horatio finally unsticks himself, he rushes to the scene, only to “unstick” the already rescued ball from the kids. After another doorway misadventure, Horatio returns to his former ballet job, leaving Grover in need of a new sidekick. However, Chris and Elmo decline his offer, leading Super Grover to continue his superhero duties solo.
Elmo and his friends joyfully present the letter of the day, H, through a lively song and dance.
In the celebrity segment, Aloe Blacc joins the cast, singing about being an "Everyday Hero."
"Cookie's Crumby Pictures" presents "Aveggies: Age of Bon Bon," where Cookie Monster and the Aveggies team defend the world's vegetables from the cookie-ship of Bon Bon. Cookie Monster's focus, or lack thereof, turns out to be the key to their victory.
Count von Count and his friends sing and dance their way to the number of the day - 1.
Finally, "Elmo the Musical: Superhero the Musical" unfolds, showcasing "Mighty Elmo" as the city's beloved superhero. He faces off against Baddy McBad, the villain who attempts to disrupt the city playground. Elmo's super strength and kindness not only resolve the situation but also inspire Baddy McBad to turn a new leaf.
