Telly, along with some kids, interrupts to announce a special worm party taking place in the garden. Oscar, however, plans to visit the dump with Slimey. Noticing Slimey's disappointment, Oscar suppresses his own desires and agrees to accompany Slimey to the party. Uncharacteristically, Oscar feels good about his kind action, which ironically makes him grouchy.
In the garden, Nina leads the "Be Kind to Your Worm Day" celebrations with her worm friend, Sweetiekins. They play "Worm Peek-A-Boo," but Oscar, predictably, initially refuses to participate. When Slimey starts to look downcast, Oscar joins in the game to cheer up his worm. Next, they engage in a special dance - the "Wiggledy Worm." Once again, Oscar is reluctant, but Elmo persuades him to join in for Slimey's happiness.
After the party, Oscar is ready to return home, but Slimey seems to be enjoying the company of the other worms. Upon learning that Sweetiekins lives in the garden, Slimey shows interest in doing the same. Prioritizing Slimey's happiness, Oscar reluctantly allows Slimey to stay in the garden and returns to his can, feeling downcast. When everyone leaves, Slimey notices Oscar's absence and rushes back to his best friend.
Back at his can, Oscar starts to pack his belongings, planning to leave Sesame Street as his trash can no longer feels like home without Slimey. As Oscar prepares to give Slimey's tiny sweater to Alan, he is unaware that Slimey is inching towards him. Alan and Nina alert Oscar just in time to avoid a mishap.
